The country also has a lovely tropical climate, with a large variety of fauna and flora, starting from an impervious forest, going through a vast variety of mountains of different sizes, large swamplands and several large rivers nets - sometimes moving along plain lands or forming magnificent waterfalls - until they arrive at the Atlantic coast, with about 8.000 kilometers of continuous beautiful beaches.
Contrary to what most people think... the language of is not Spanish... it is PORTUGUESE and the local currency is called REAL!
Volunteering in Brazil
The goal of all the volunteer programs is to make a positive impact on the local communities and on the projects in which they take place and promote intercultural exchange. It is the ideal travel experience for those who want to go beyond the ordinary and be a part of solutions to the world!
You DO NOT need any special skills to participate in our programs and mission trips, just a willingness to participate in hands-on physical work/projects. There is always a supervisor to train you and give you
directions. The volunteer mission trips have usually a minimum of 10 days and a maximum of 21 days. Volunteers are not required to know the local language, Portuguese, due to the nature of the project, manual labor, and for all the communications needed, interpreters will be on site to assist the volunteers!
Sightseeing tours will be planned during the period you are in the country, to experiment as much as possible, the beautiful sights, sounds and tastes of Brazil and at the same time, having the rich personal opportunity for cultural exchange.
Details on the mission trips can be found on the Volunteer Mission Flyer for each specific mission trip.
Lodging and Meals:
Brazil is considered a relatively inexpensive country for foreigners, but it all depends on your lifestyle. MissionServ International lodges its volunteers in small local Inns called "POUSADAS". Planned meals are prepared and served at the Inn and/or at the working site, depending on the project and distances. Usually these meals are covered in the general cost of the mission. A meal at a local basic popular restaurant may be as cheap as R$ 15.00 (Exchange rate about 1 to 2, which varies). In nicer and upscale restaurants a meal could go up to 4 or 5 times more. Read more
